For many of us the coast seems to offer an inescapable attraction. Perhaps
it's the vibrancy of the air or the sense of freedom brought on by an
unbroken horizon, perhaps it's the soothing effect of gently rolling
waves or the invigoration of a winter storm.
Whatever the reasons for its allure, the coast offers a refreshing dynamic
environment in which the earth's natural processes are manifest. In
North West Scotland the coast is frequently ravaged by Atlantic storms
when the waves and the elements combine to assault the coast in a continuing
cycle of erosion and reshaping.
It is at the coast where the effect of reflected light enhances the
extraordinary display presented by a diminishing sun to create a spectacular
visual response that transforms the spectacle and provides an emotional
drama to lift the soul, however fleeting.
