Information Included: 4 days tuition (lunch provided), 4 nights dinner, bed & breakfast, transport to locations. Group Size: 6 Based: Ord House, Isle of Skye Fitness: Generally short walks over uneven ground. Perhaps something a little more strenuous, but certainly not too difficult. Equipment: Film or digital camera that can be used on a manual setting, tripod and cable release. Ideally a range of 3 lenses (or zoom) covering wide-angle, standard and telephoto. For '35mm-type' cameras this covers focal lengths of approximately 20mm-40mm (wide), 40mm-60mm (standard), 100mm-300mm (telephoto). The workshop will still be constructive without such a range of lenses although image options will be more limited. |
| Outline The Extended Workshop (like the Weekend Workshop) is aimed at photographers with at least a basic familiarity with the fundamental photographic concepts such as film speed, shutter speed, aperture and depth of field. Even if your awareness of these concepts is very basic, this workshop will enhance your understanding of the key principles of camera-craft and their role in the creation of atmospheric and creative images. With four full days of photography, this workshop gives us the time to establish a through grounding in your camera's creative controls and also to be more thoughtful, considered and ultimately more creative to make images that represent your own interpretation of the environment. |

![]() Our workshop begins on Monday evening with our hosts Nicola and Tony preparing a superb 3 course dinner while we luxuriate in the magnificence of the house and the views. After dinner we will decant to the lounge where Alan will present the proposed itinery for the next few days and provide an overview of the locations we hope to visit. Evocative landscape photographs are the result of a combination of technical competence and of creative ability. We have ample time over the next four days to develop both of these areas while immersing ourselves in the most inspiring of locations. |
![]() Evenings are largely dictated by the weather. If conditions are favourable then we may find ourselves on the beach below the house trying to capture the elusive afterglow of a crimson sunset disappearing behind the jagged peaks of the Cuillin. If conditions are less suitable then Alan may offer musings on various aspects of photography (or anything else) around the log fire with a glass of malt. Alternatively you may prefer to spend the evening looking out for the seals that often clamber onto the small island in the bay or the otters that can sometimes be seen darting amongst the rocks on the shoreline. Whatever the evening brings, we can be assured of a fantastic meal to accompany the spectacular views. |
![]() There may also be opportunities during the week for an early start in search of a magnificent Skye sunrise before returning to Ord House for breakfast (and perhaps a snooze if you need one). The workshop comes to a conclusion early evening on Friday with a light bite to eat and round-up of the week's activities which have hopefully developed your skills and provided the inspiration to make significant improvements in your photography. |
