Basic Information
Included: 2 days tuition (lunch provided), 2 nights dinner, bed & breakfast, transport to locations.
Group Size: 6
Based: Ord House, Isle of Skye
Fitness: Generally short walks over uneven ground. Perhaps something a little more strenuous, but certainly not too difficult.
Equipment: Film or digital camera that can be used on a manual setting, tripod and cable release. Ideally a range of 3 lenses (or zoom) covering wide-angle, standard and telephoto. For '35mm-type' cameras this covers focal lengths of approximately 20mm-40mm (wide), 40mm-60mm (standard), 100mm-300mm (telephoto). The workshop will still be constructive without such a range of lenses although image options will be more limited.

Outline
The Weekend Workshop is aimed at photographers with at least a basic familiarity with the fundamental photographic concepts such as film speed, shutter speed, aperture and depth of field. Even if your awareness of these concepts is very basic, this workshop will enhance your understanding of the key principles of camera-craft and their role in the creation of atmospheric and creative images.

Details

This workshop is based within the sumptuous 5-star accomodation of Ord House, a magnificent Georgian country house within 18 acres of grounds and overlooking Loch Eishort across to the jagged peaks of the Cuillin and south to the isles of Canna and Rhum.

We begin our weekend on Friday evening with a fabulous 3 course dinner prepared by our hosts Nicola and Tony. Dinner is followed by an informal introduction to the weekend and an overview of the locations we hope to visit over the next two days.

We have sufficient time over the weekend to ensure that you develop a confidence and a competence with the creative controls available from your equipment. However, making evocative images is about much more than being able to work a camera and you will develop the skills required to seek-out potential images within the landscape and how to use your creative abilities combined with improved camera-craft to make images that evoke your own interpretation of the environment.

While our photographic endeavours take priority, we find time to enjoy another wonderful dinner on Saturday evening perhaps followed by a glass of malt in front of a roaring log fire. There may be opportunities for both a dusk shoot on the Saturday evening and (for those that don't require much sleep) a dawn shoot on the Sunday morning before returning to Ord House for breakfast.

The workshop comes to a conclusion early evening on Sunday over a light bite to eat and round-up of the weekend's events which hopefully leave you inspired and eager to continue your photographic journey.
